New Student Orientation

Congratulations on your acceptance to East Carolina University! You will find that ECU is a warm and friendly campus with faculty and staff who are anxious to assist you in achieving your academic goals. Orientation enables you to make a smooth transition into academic and campus life at ECU. You will be introduced to ECU’s community, learn about resources available to assist you in making a smooth transition, and receive information to help you be successful as a student at ECU.

New Student Orientation for Freshmen Students

Registration for the Summer 2024 is closed

If you were unable to register for a Summer Session, you can register now for Orientation on August 15th!

Students will register through PiratePort after they pay their $100 enrollment deposit.


New Student Orientation for Transfer Students

“Transfer Students starting at ECU in Spring 2025, the following are your options for Orientation:

One Day On-Campus Orientation

  • Upcoming Dates, Registration is open:
    • Friday, November 15, 2024
    • Friday, January 10, 2025
  • Check In:
    • 8:00 am – 8:50 am
    • Day should conclude by 5:00 pm
  • Cost:
    • $100 for students
    • $50 for the first family member and $20 for each additional family member
    • No charge for family members under the age of 17
  • What’s Covered:
    • Student’s ECU 1Card
    • Program materials and meals
    • Parking and shuttle service
    • Facility usage and staffing
  • What to Expect:
    • Sessions introduce students and their families to academic policies and campus resources
    • Students will meet with Academic Advisors, register for classes, receive their ECU 1Card, and meet other Transfer Students

Online Orientation

  • There is a $20 fee for online Orientation
  • Access Online Orientation through PiratePort by using your ECU Pirate ID and password
  • Your ECU credentials (Pirate ID, ECU Email, and Student Banner) can found in your “admitted” on your Admissions Portal
  • Once you complete the online Orientation, including the end survey, you will be provided an advisory code and contact information for advising centers
  • Contact the Advising Center associated with your major, give them the code, and discuss the class registration process
  • Although the cost of online Orientation includes the cost of your 1Card, you are responsible for picking up your 1Card from the 1Card Office
  • You may register and complete online Orientation at any time; however, you will not be able to be advised until it is completed

Registration will open mid-September. You will register for Orientation through PiratePort after you pay your $100 Enrollment Deposit.
